New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's social media post advising residents on how to interact with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents reached more than 7 million views on Friday.

The message, published on X in Spanish, outlined specific legal rights for individuals facing federal immigration officers. Mamdani stated that agents cannot enter private spaces such as homes, schools, or hospitals without a judicial warrant. He also emphasized the right to remain silent during encounters.

Mamdani described the current environment as frightening for many people. He included practical tips for navigating interactions with the agency. The post quickly gained traction online, drawing attention from political figures on both sides of the aisle.

Republican lawmakers reacted swiftly with sharp criticism on social media. Representative Brandon Gill of Texas called the move insulting to American citizens, noting that Mamdani became a citizen less than a decade ago. Gill accused the mayor of coaching residents in a foreign language on how to avoid lawful deportation.

Senator Mike Lee of Utah argued that the video did not urge anyone to abide by United States laws. He stated that the guidance was not made for the benefit of the American public. Representative Nancy Mace of South Carolina simply wrote that people here illegally are not New Yorkers.

Other critics used stronger language. Senator Bernie Moreno of Ohio labeled the post as treason. Actor Dean Cain called the mayor dangerous, asserting that those here illegally have no reason to fear ICE. Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton described the statement as dangerous incitement full of disturbing falsehoods.

Mamdani's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital. The mayor has positioned himself against ICE during his campaign and since taking office. He previously signed an executive order strengthening sanctuary policies in New York City. That order limits agency cooperation with federal immigration authorities and protects personal data.
