Avisia AI models favor Yamal for Ballon d'Or over Kane and Mbappe

French data analysis firm Avisia identified Lamine Yamal as the most likely recipient of the 2026 Ballon d'Or, assigning the Barcelona winger a 23 percent probability of winning the award. The 19-year-old is the youngest candidate in a field that includes Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe. The winner will be announced at the London Palladium within 24 hours of the announcement.
Avisia’s models place Kane second with a 21 percent probability and Mbappe third at 19 percent. Rodri, the 2024 winner, is also tied with Mbappe at 19 percent. Lionel Messi rounds out the top five with an 18 percent chance to claim a ninth award. The firm noted that its algorithms correctly identified the top five finishers for the 2025 award, which Ousmane Dembele won.
Bookmaker odds diverge sharply from the AI projections. Wagers currently favor Kane as the outright winner, with approximately 70 percent of the market value placed on the England striker. This discrepancy highlights a split between quantitative statistical models and public betting sentiment in the final day of the race.
Players and managers have offered varied opinions on the likely outcome. Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone endorsed Messi, citing the Argentine's performance at age 38 after the World Cup. Former Italy international Marco Materazzi agreed, stating that Messi operates in a different league despite the age gap with the younger contenders.
Jude Bellingham, who is also on the shortlist, supported his England teammate Kane. Bellingham described Kane as honest and hard-working, calling it definitely possible for Kane to win. Anthony Gordon, an England international, backed his Barcelona teammate Yamal, describing the young winger's achievements as ridiculous and placing him on a whole other level.
Kylian Mbappe received support from Real Madrid teammate Aurelien Tchouameni, who called the Frenchman's season incredible. Statistically, Mbappe leads the race with 25 La Liga goals and 15 Champions League goals. He also won the World Cup Golden Boot and set the record for most World Cup goals with 12. Kane scored 73 goals last season, the highest total since Lionel Messi's 82 in 2011-12.
Trophies won during the calendar year often influence the final decision. Mbappe and Kane did not win major titles, with England finishing third at the World Cup and Kane's Bayern Munich winning the Bundesliga. Yamal won the World Cup with Spain and the La Liga title with Barcelona, overcoming injury issues during his campaign. Only four of the previous 19 winners failed to lift a major trophy in their winning year.
The ceremony in London will determine if Yamal becomes the youngest winner in the award's history. He would surpass Brazilian Ronaldo, who was 21 when he won in 1997. The decision rests with the voting panel, who must weigh raw statistical output against collective team success in the 2025-26 season.
